VMware vSphere 7.0 update 1 availability for HPE Nimble dHCI

showing the dHCI user interface with upgrade catalogs

This was announced internally to HPE staff & partners, so I thought i’d put this up for our dHCI customers too 🙂

As of January 26th 2021 the Nimble dHCI platform now has the capability to perform full 1-click lifecycle management upgrades with either vSphere 6.5, 6.7 and now vSphere 7!

What’s even better, one can choose to perform 1-click upgrades within the same release family, OR across release families (say vSphere 6.7 -> 7.0). This intelligence is built from scratch by the HPE dHCI engineering teams, and forgoes the need to use things such as vLCM.

Note: The vSphere 7.0 release that dHCI formally supports is 7.0 update 1c.

You can view the available upgrade catalogs for all dHCI cross-family upgrades on the HPE Infosight Validated Config Matrix, as well as any conditions or gotchas you may need to consider. These are ratified and fully tested by the Nimble dHCI engineering teams.

All Nimble dHCI catalogs are built and tested upon the customised HPE VMware images for HPE ProLiant platforms. Those custom images can be found here.

If you’re ever confused about which release of VMware vSphere is available, you can jump to this handy VMware KB which details the release numbering and it’s naming.

And if you want more information on how exactly dHCI performs the 1-click upgrade process, I refer you to my previous blog on the subject here.

Catalogs are available now, and expect more catalogs to become available soon on Nimble’s upcoming “Malibu” release in February/March 2021.

Cheers for now!

Nick
